There was a bit of suffering in normal, yeah, but the fact that it was still clearly possible is what's important. I think my first impression of the game was "well this is a neat way to tell guys not to have kids"...jokingly; but as soon as I saw that top hat I knew we wern't exactly playing as father of the year. I mean, hey, someone's gotta keep that newgrounds humor alive.

The 'time' sacrifice doesn't exactly add much, but by the comment you make at the end of that timer; I'm sure you know that. Maybe changing the cutscenes to a 'cutie' style would've added some real contrast if you gave it a similar, but innocent story.
Hell, it could even be sorta' chilling if it was implied in the cute run that IT might be reality; would be striking since you would only want to play that rout after the canon one.

But really, I did like the rest of the gameplay.

Promising idea, reminds me of the concept Yahtzee threw around of an RPG where you level-down throughout the story.

I think you should re-visit this sometime later, or at least the mechanics of it; I think it'll be a huge benefit for it to be longer to at least let the desperation of the situation solidify itself, and maybe with a few curve balls thrown in.

I actually laughed when I noticed the timer just goes into the negatives instead of giving a game over.

Not too many games where you play as a skelly building a skeleton golem to help destroy some...brain? That's about where my understanding stops but the ending text was nicely creepy.
